The Children’s Museum is searching for an Educator & Art Coordinator to help us achieve our mission of inspiring growth in all children by engaging families in learning through play! This is a thirty hour per week full time position with benefits that reports to the Education Department.
Responsibilities:
The Educator & Art Coordinator is responsible for implementing, organizing, and supervising museum art programming in both locations, developing in each visitor an interest in and the ability for creative expression using skills and techniques consistent with CMoR’s education philosophy. The Coordinator will also deliver educational and engaging programs on a variety of topics through facilitation of floor programming, school field trips, and additional education activities at community events and/or offsite locations.
Competencies:
Candidates should have a demonstrable passion for the mission and work of the Museum and a strong desire to make a difference in their community. Candidates should have a strong interest in continuous learning and using new ways to teach; candidates should also be comfortable teaching children and adults with diverse backgrounds and education levels. Successful candidates will be organized and proactive with strong collaboration skills.
Skills and Abilities:
Candidates should have an art education background and experience working with different art mediums. Candidates should also have a practical knowledge of teaching in a variety of modes and methods and familiarity with the elementary level of Virginia SOL’s and Early Learning and Development Standards.
Candidates should have a valid unrestricted driver’s license with clean driving record and the ability to pass a background check. This position requires extensive walking, standing, heavy lifting up to fifty pounds, and occasional use of tools. Occasional night or weekend hours may be required.
